In the wake of the TikTok ban and revival as a mouthpiece for fascist propaganda, as well as the downfall of Twitter and Facebook/Facebook-owned platforms to the same evils, I think now is a better time than ever to say LEARN HTML!!! You can host a website on Neocities for free as long as it's under 1GB (which is a LOT more than it sounds like let me tell you) but if that's not enough you can get 50GB of space (and a variety of other perks) for only $5 a month.

And if you can't/don't want to pay for the extra space, sites like File Garden and Catbox let you host files for free that you can easily link into NeoCities pages (I do this to host videos on mine!) (It also lets you share files NeoCities wouldn't let you upload for free anyways, this is how I upload the .zip files for my 3DS themes on my site.)

Don't know how to write HTML/CSS? No problem. W3schools is an invaluable resource with free lessons on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and a whole slew of other programming languages, both for web development and otherwise.

There's no great secret to finding the images, it's just a simple google trick that will search for websites that have open directories that anyone can browse.

From there i tweak and add more specific terms to get different results. A really good google "hack" i recently discovered is including before:{year} in the search terms to only get results prior to that year. This filters out loads of more recent rubbish that generally isn't very interesting. It's also really useful for more general googling and can help strip out SEO & AI nonsense that has pretty much ruined google as a search engine.

I don't share the actual source directories, partly because i don't really keep track of them once they've been plundered, and also because sometimes you find personal information that shouldn't really be for public consumption.

i have never tried straw.page but it looks similar to carrd and other WYSIWYG editors (which is unappealing to me, since i know html/css/js and want full control of the code. and can't hide secrets in code comments.....)

my 2 cents as a web designer is if you're looking to learn web design or host long-term web projects, WYSIWYG editors suck doodooass. you don't learn the basics of coding, someone else does it for you! however, if you're just looking to quickly host images, links to your other social medias, write text entries/blogposts, WYSIWYG can be nice.

toyhouse, tumblr, deviantart, a lot of sites implement WYSIWYG for their post editors as well, but then you can run into issues relying on their main site features for things like the search system, user profiles, comments, etc. but it can be nice to just login to your account and host your information in one place, especially on a platform that's geared towards that specific type of information. (toyhouse is a better example of this, since you have a lot of control of how your profile/character pages look, even without a premium account) carrd can be nice if you just want to say "here's where to find me on other sites," for example. but sometimes you want a full website!

neocities hosting

currently, i host my website on neocities, but i would say the web2.0sphere has sucked some doodooass right now and i'm fiending for something better than it. it's a static web host, e.g. you can upload text, image, audio, and client-side (mostly javascript and css) files, and html pages. for the past few years, neocities' servers have gotten slower and slower and had total blackouts with no notices about why it's happening... and i'm realizing they host a lot of crypto sites that have crypto miners that eat up a ton of server resources. i don't think they're doing anything to limit bot or crypto mining activity and regular users are taking a hit.

↑ page 1 on neocitie's most viewed sites we find this site. this site has a crypto miner on it, just so i'm not making up claims without proof here. there is also a very populated #crypto tag on neocities (has porn in it tho so be warned...).

dynamic/server-side web hosting

$5/mo for neocities premium seems cheap until you realize... The Beautiful World of Server-side Web Hosting!

client-side AKA static web hosting (neocities, geocities) means you can upload images, audio, video, and other files that do not interact with the server where the website is hosted, like html, css, and javascript. the user reading your webpage does not send any information to the server like a username, password, their favourite colour, etc. - any variables handled by scripts like javascript will be forgotten when the page is reloaded, since there's no way to save it to the web server. server-side AKA dynamic web hosting can utilize any script like php, ruby, python, or perl, and has an SQL database to store variables like the aforementioned that would have previously had nowhere to be stored.

there are many places in 2024 you can host a website for free, including: infinityfree (i use this for my test websites :B has tons of subdomains to choose from) [unlimited sites, 5gb/unlimited storage], googiehost [1 site, 1gb/1mb storage], freehostia [5 sites/1 database, 250mb storage], freehosting [1 site, 10gb/unlimited storage]

if you want more features like extra websites, more storage, a dedicated e-mail, PHP configuration, etc, you can look into paying a lil shmoney for web hosting: there's hostinger (this is my promocode so i get. shmoney. if you. um. 🗿🗿🗿) [$2.40-3.99+/mo, 100 sites/300 databases, 100gb storage, 25k visits/mo], a2hosting [$1.75-12.99+/mo, 1 site/5 databases, 10gb/1gb storage], and cloudways [$10-11+/mo, 25gb/1gb]. i'm seeing people say to stay away from godaddy and hostgator. before you purchase a plan, look up coupons, too! (i usually renew my plan ahead of time when hostinger runs good sales/coupons LOL)

domain names

most of the free website hosts will give you a subdomain like yoursite.has-a-cool-website-69.org, and usually paid hosts expect you to bring your own domain name. i got my domain on namecheap (enticing registration prices, mid renewal prices), there's also porkbun, cloudflare, namesilo, and amazon route 53. don't use godaddy or squarespace. make sure you double check the promo price vs. the actual renewal price and don't get charged $120/mo when you thought it was $4/mo during a promo, certain TLDs (endings like .com, .org, .cool, etc) cost more and have a base price (.car costs $2,300?!?). look up coupons before you purchase these as well!

namecheap and porkbun offer something called "handshake domains," DO NOT BUY THESE. 🤣🤣🤣 they're usually cheaper and offer more appealing, hyper-specific endings like .iloveu, .8888, .catgirl, .dookie, .gethigh, .♥, .❣, and .✟. I WISH WE COULD HAVE THEM but they're literally unusable. in order to access a page using a handshake domain, you need to download a handshake resolver. every time the user connects to the site, they have to provide proof of work. aside from it being incredibly wasteful, you LITERALLY cannot just type in the URL and go to your own website, you need to download a handshake resolver, meaning everyday internet users cannot access your site.

hosting a static site on a dynamic webhost

you can host a static (html/css/js only) website on a dynamic web server without having to learn PHP and SQL! if you're coming from somewhere like neocities, the only thing you need to do is configure your website's properties. your hosting service will probably have tutorials to follow for this, and possibly already did some steps for you. you need to point the nameserver to your domain, install an SSL certificate, and connect to your site using FTP for future uploads. FTP is a faster, alternative way to upload files to your website instead of your webhost's file upload system; programs like WinSCP or FileZilla can upload using FTP for you.

if you wanna learn PHP and SQL and really get into webdev, i wrote a forum post at Mysidia Adoptables here, tho it's sorted geared at the mysidia script library itself (Mysidia Adoptables is a free virtual pet site script, tiny community. go check it out!)

file storage & backups

a problem i have run into a lot in my past like, 20 years of internet usage (/OLD) is that a site that is free, has a small community, and maybe sounds too good/cheap to be true, has a higher chance of going under. sometimes this happens to bigger sites like tinypic, photobucket, and imageshack, but for every site like that, there's like a million of baby sites that died with people's files. host your files/websites on a well-known site, or at least back it up and expect it to go under!

i used to host my images on something called "imgjoe" during the tinypic/imageshack era, it lasted about 3 years, and i lost everything hosted on there. more recently, komaedalovemail had its webpages hosted here on tumblr, and tumblr changed its UI so custom pages don't allow javascript, which prevented any new pages from being edited/added. another test site i made a couple years ago on hostinger's site called 000webhost went under/became a part of hostinger's paid-only plans, so i had to look very quickly for a new host or i'd lose my test site.

if you're broke like me, looking into physical file storage can be expensive. anything related to computers has gone through baaaaad inflation due to crypto, which again, I Freaquing Hate, and is killing mother nature. STOP MINING CRYPTO this is gonna be you in 1 year

...um i digress. ANYWAYS, you can archive your websites, which'll save your static assets on The Internet Archive (which could use your lovely donations right now btw), and/or archive.today (also taking donations). having a webhost service with lots of storage and automatic backups can be nice if you're worried about file loss or corruption, or just don't have enough storage on your computer at home!

if you're buying physical storage, be it hard drive, solid state drive, USB stick, whatever... get an actual brand like Western Digital or Seagate and don't fall for those cheap ones on Amazon that claim to have 8,000GB for $40 or you're going to spend 13 days in windows command prompt trying to repair the disk and thenthe power is gong to go out in your shit ass neighvborhood and you have to run it tagain and then Windows 10 tryes to update and itresets the /chkdsk agin while you're awayfrom town nad you're goig to start crytypting and kts just hnot going tot br the same aever agai nikt jus not ggiog to be the saeme

further webhosting options

there are other Advanced options when it comes to web hosting. for example, you can physically own and run your own webserver, e.g. with a computer or a raspberry pi. r/selfhosted might be a good place if you're looking into that!

if you know or are learning PHP, SQL, and other server-side languages, you can host a webserver on your computer using something like XAMPP (Apache, MariaDB, PHP, & Perl) with minimal storage space (the latest version takes up a little under 1gb on my computer rn). then, you can test your website without needing an internet connection or worrying about finding a hosting plan that can support your project until you've set everything up!

there's also many PHP frameworks which can be useful for beginners and wizards of the web alike. WordPress is one which you're no doubt familiar with for creating blog posts, and Bluehost is a decent hosting service tailored to WordPress specifically. there's full frameworks like Laravel, CakePHP, and Slim, which will usually handle security, user authentication, web routing, and database interactions that you can build off of. Laravel in particular is noob-friendly imo, and is used by a large populace, and it has many tutorials, example sites built with it, and specific app frameworks.

addendum: storing sensitive data

if you decide to host a server-side website, you'll most likely have a login/out functionality (user authentication), and have to store things like usernames, passwords, and e-mails. PLEASE don't launch your website until you're sure your site security is up to snuff!

when trying to check if your data is hackable... It's time to get into the Mind of a Hacker. OWASP has some good cheat sheets that list some of the bigger security concerns and how to mitigate them as a site owner, and you can look up filtered security issues on the Exploit Database.

this is kind of its own topic if you're coding a PHP website from scratch; most frameworks securely store sensitive data for you already. if you're writing your own PHP framework, refer to php.net's security articles and this guide on writing an .htaccess file.

WYSIWYG editors in general are more capable of this. i only started looking into this yesterday, but there ARE source code editor apps for mobile devices! if you have a webhosting plan, you can download/upload assets/code from your phone and whatnot and code on the go. i downloaded Runecode for iphone. it might suck ass to keep typing those brackets.... we'll see..... but sometimes you're stuck in the car and you're like damn i wanna code my site GRRRR I WANNA CODE MY SITE!!!

"Possible Threats" - Blue Moon AU

It's been a couple months since Gianna's passing...while people were still mourning for her loss slowly....Alice's tyranny has only grown rapidly.

Kids have been scrambling to do their best to keep these beasts at bay...to most have fallen or hidden out of fear. Moon Base has been struggling to get out more members out in the fields to join along side Gianna's close friends; Sector PHP, Carol, Aiden, Plantazia, and many more to put on the list that are fighting to avenge Gianna from her death.

However, there was still ways to go until their main mission is complete; Defeat Alice and destroy The Entity.

One night, the creatures in one area of the neighborhood decide to roam and search for any new victims to torture...Except for one. One of the Shadow Walkers was just roaming the streets normally, watching all of the destruction happen in front of it.

Creatures were happily flying around, destroying anything in their paths. It was like their own little playground..

Though behind the eyes of the Shadow Walkers...is the eyes of The Devil's Doll....Alice Anderson. The demon girl who kids heavily despise and hate for the terrible crime she committed. Somewhere in the town, is a base for her to rest in and watch chaos rain down from above, admiring her new powers and abilities given by The Entity.

It then uses the crystal ball to change point of views...to the one where some of Gianna's friends were fighting the hoards of creatures attacking them....It was Aiden and Carol. Both of their expressions had the aura of enragement while taking down these creatures one by one.

"...What concerns me is that despite the despair levels being higher than 5....they continue to fight on and not rest until they reach us.." "..Plus...let's not forget about this new....Blue Moon that suddenly appeared that made the creatures weaker to those kids!" "There are rumors as we speak that this Blue Moon is actually Gianna in spirit, trying to help out the people by lending her energy to fight back our army."

Alice could only go silent at that point since the current situations were...shocking. Yet she shook off her speechless reactions and folds her arms, looking away.

"...Ok then...what do you think we should do to make sure these guys don't slow down our progress?"

The Entity soon returns to its spirit form and floats to Alice's face.

"I suggest that we keep making sure that these creatures soon start going towards them...push them back while the rest keep the progress of the world domination going at a steady pace. I can adjust these creatures to make sure that Gianna's friends are wanted dead..."

"That way the second their sight is on any of these friends....no mercy will be shown."

Alice soon thinks on the plan and realizes what The Entity meant...a smirk slowly forming on her face.

"In other words...we exhaust them til they are too tired to fight!"

She then laughs evilly and claps her hands together.

"Very well, master...I shall pay a visit to our other 'friend' and inform them about this course of action~"

The Entity nods once, soon disappearing into a puff of smoke.

Alice soon makes her way to a very dark room, skipping happily...until she stopped and looked up at giant being that was chained up...Acting as a power source to summoning the Shadow Creatures to the world.

I have censored the NSFW blog at the request of the owner out of respect. The owner is concerned about the potential for minors finding it through tags that are generally safe for minors.

That's totally fair and reasonable for them to not want.

But... can I say that I'm not a huge fan of this culture?

Tumblr is a 13+ site. Most kids are given sex ed in schools at 12. There should be no little children who don't know about sex on this site.

There are warnings on 18+ blogs when you go to them to make sure you want to see the content.

Anyone who goes to an 18+ blog knows and accepts the risks and responsibilities.

And you can't even view an 18+ blog if your account is listed as a minor, which means you need to lie about your age to get on!

As I censor the post, I find myself thinking about other recent efforts to protect children by hiding materials from them deemed as obscene. Conservative schools have been using this as an excuse to ban books like The Handmaid's Tale from schools for being "obscene" and now Texas is trying to make bookstores liable is a minor buys books like this.

At the point a minor does find the NSFW blog, it's because they made an account where they lied about their age specifically to be able to see NSFW content.

You made your blog NSFW. You gave warnings about it. At that point... you've fulfilled your obligation and if someone wanted to lie about their age to see that content... it's on them.

They have free will autonomy. And let's face it, a lot of teens are going to find NSFW content one way or another. My host found NSFW videos and erotica online as a teen. His parents snuck nude magazines around in the 80s.

It is a part of life that we desperately need to acknowledge in a world being consumed by rampant "think of the children" hysteria right now that's being used to strip marginalized people of their rights!

It's perfectly reasonable to limit the visibility of a NSFW blog as much as possible as a personal boundary... BUT I don't think you should feel bad if some minors break Tumblr's rules and lie to see that content. I don't think you should feel responsible for their actions. And I don't think you should feel guilty for it.

And that's what I want to say in this post. I don't think you did anything wrong by making a NSFW blog. I think it's a good thing to normalize being able to talk about sexual stuff in systems. And yes, if you put out anything NSFW on the internet, minors WILL probably find it. But finding NSFW stuff that you aren't supposed to is just a natural part of growing up!

So if you see this, my hope is that you'll come away thinking, "you know what? This isn't actually as big of a deal as I thought" and won't feel as bad about the whole situation.

Del Ray Brothers

-Ezekiel is Tyler's older brother, A star pupil and is great in academics. But despite such an excellent endeavor isn't all that he seems, He's a real troublemaker too!

-He's not completely trouble though, It's more so that he likes to tease and be laid back often despite his presentation at school. He's a real big brother type to his friends and his family.

-Gregory, Tyler's little brother, is quite the cheerful kiddo! We can compare his demeanor to Evan's.

-Unlike his older brother, He's more of a follower than a leader but he's really good at being innovative and has a knack for tinkering and creating anything that comes to his mind!

Montgomery Sibling

-Vivien is a real sweetheart, The one you can open up to and the type of kid who loves to take care of others!

-They're modest and overall kind to others, A great nurse in the field ever since their big brother started in inventing and he get injuries often.

-They look up to their big brother, both figuratively and literally. They even get shoulder rides from him when he gets home from the treehouse he shares with his friends. Which Vivien often looks forward to!

Martinez Siblings

-Jamie is Evan's shy little brother. He's often very timid and reserved whenever he's in a new crowd of people he doesn't know, any large group really gets him antsy.

-If one can manage to get him out of his shell, He'll start showing his kind and motivating nature.

-He's really good at stealth! Mostly because he gets so quiet, it's hard to track him at times!

-Evan's older sister, Maya, isn't home a lot because she already moved out to start her days in med school!

-She lives in a more suburban town with her girlfriend but that doesn't mean she doesn't call and check up on her little brothers!

Mitski Brother

-Malakai, Phoebe's little brother, is quite the fighter. All he talked about is how much he wanted to be like his big sister when he grows up to be much stronger!

-He's rugged and has a lot of spunk in him but he means well, He's really helpful when he isn't filling his rough personality.

-The best at combat, Sometimes he and his sister start little fights to teach each other to be strong!

Burnham Sister..

-The little girl never made it past 5 years old, She had long passed alongside her mother in a car accident.

-Mella doesn't talk about her much because she already moved on a long time ago but even til now, she misses her little sister.

-From what we know, Eleanor loved her big sister, truly. She looked up to her and made a promise to be just as kind and caring as she was.

-Eleanor was a more bubbly and lively child, A spark contrast to her older sister's calm and cool nature.

-She was closest with Jamie when she was still around, They were besties.

-She loved pink, specifically baby pink. She had a doll handed down to her once by Mella, it was a cute little bunny.

-Eleanor would've loved to join the KND when she got older but sadly, that dream never came so her older sister lived out her dreams and wishes for her.

About the Eros Vampyre.

An Eros vampyre refers to a being of any form that feeds upon intimate love or lust. Eros vampyre has also been used interchangeably with “Pranic/Tantric vampyre."

Eros, as a concept related but separate to the god of love and sex, represents one of the four Greek Loves. It is passionate and sensual love, oftentimes resulting from sensual desire or activity. Eros is known as a life force similar to blood or the psyche, eros itself is a physical emotion expressed through psychosomatic means. Eros may make you lovesick or experience a state of overwhelming joy for love. Eros is the desire for wholeness and to be completed by another equal amount of eros from a source, whether that is yourself or another being (similar to sang vampyres feeding upon themselves).

I am of the belief that instead of being interchangeable with eros, that these concepts exist underneath the term eros vampyre as ranges of intensity of said love, with tantric being more emotional and spiritual way of feeding.

Tantra is an ancient Buddhist and Hindu practice that relates to weaving and creating woven spirits with either your own healing or aligned with others. It teaches the importance of celebrating the body and heightening sexuality and intimacy. Tantra and its practices, whether that look like yoga or meditation, have the ultimate goal of “playing” with the physical body's prana and “shaping it”. Tantra and tantric experiences don't require intimacy, it simply explores sexuality.

I also see the terms incubus, succubus, siren, and satyr in relation with eros vampyrism. These terms can be used as titles or as specific groupings for how an erosiyan feeds.

Traits I am a firm believer that traits between vampyres differ, either by age or by congenital changes.

The basic things apply to the vocal majority of vampyres:

“Auras” or output of energy that is like tendrils, moving mist, darker colors.

An “enhanced point” in the body that is used for feeding or collection (whether that be fangs, magick, craft, etc.)

Sense of weak to strong withdrawal

Below average life force that may or may not be detrimental and needs to be replenished

When specific to erosiyans:

Auras tend to glow from the darkness in the eyes of potential donors, lovers, or partners. A sparkling aura in the eyes of a donor may not be sparkling in the eyes of someone else.

The enhanced point are the eyes instead of fangs, as erosiyans don't have prominent fangs for, which is common in stories of love.

Eyes are said to be windows to the soul as well as being able to elicit erotic desire. “Getting lost in one's eyes,” can be applied to erosiyans with black or very dark eyes that share resemble to outer space or a black hole.

Eros originates from the eyes, and they glow or radiate when feeding.

Feeding Since erosiyans rely on their eyes, eros vampyres have the ability to feed exclusively with their eyes and the emotion given by the eyes. This may lean more into pranic eros with the spirit weaving. Physical intimacy can still be a part of it but it always comes after being fed or feeding, and will use the energy gained from "the tease" in order to participate.

Personally, I have fed both ways and can fit in the middle of the spectrum. In my experience, I have fed easily by pranic eros and with my eyes only. I go into constant limerence when I get hungry, and cannot let it go until I fed. I know my body and have responded accordingly for some time now - not only have I learned from experimenting but I have understood further what I would wish to see from others.

Eros is a life force that is stored within sensual and intimate acts of love. Eros vampyres feed upon eros, so it would need to be from that kind of love.

This concept may be similar to mirous attraction.
